Arsenal in 3-way battle for Dutch star´s FREE transfer?

If there is any truth to the latest twist on one of the ongoing Arsenal transfer rumours, it will certainly add an extra bit of spice to what is already shaping up to be one o0f the most hard fought and hotly contested races for the Premier League top four ever.

The Gunners were already said to be in a direct contest with one big rival, Manchester United, for the signature of the Aston Villa and Holland international defender Ron Vlaar. So the football media were all thinking that whichever club secures a place in the Champions League, if it is only to be one of us, would have a big advantage when it comes to persuading Vlaar where to go.

And now that another of our top four rivals Southampton have joined the race for the 30-year old centre back, according to a Daily Express report, it has become even more tasty.

Who finishes in the top four and who seals the transfer of Vlaar will not become clear for some months but what does seem certain is that Vlaar will not be staying at his current club. The World Cup star is out of contract in the summer and has reportedly made it clear to his new manager Tim Sherwood that he will not be signing a new deal.

But is he the right player for Arsenal and if so, will we be able to beat our rivals to get him?
