After many many months of negotiations, it appears that the Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny could have a new deal signed and sealed “in the coming hours”.
It is being reported in Italy this morning that the Roma coach Luciano Spalletti has made Wojciech his priority for next season, and the club is willing to match Arsenal’s demands. He will join on loan for a second season, with Roma holding an option to make the move permanent for a fee in the region of €16-18m next summer.
So if Szczesny is as successful as he was last year at the Italian giants, then it would appear that the Pole has played his last game for the Gunners, but going by his comments last week he will always remain an Arsenal fan.
What this then means for David Ospina we will have to wait and see, with Besiktas having made it clear that they want the Columbian international next season. But surely Wenger won’t let both Szczesny and Ospina leave the club and leave Petr Cech without an adequate backup.
My personal thought is that Wenger has given up on persuading the Turkish club to increase their derisory offer and has decided to keep him at the Emirates.
