Arsenal lining up deal for Bellerin amid Barcelona reports

Arsenal are claimed to be preparing a new contract for Hector Bellerin, who has is claimed to be of interest to Barcelona at present.

The Catalan giants are expected to see Dani Alves quit the club this summer and move to Juventus, which will leave them with only Aleix Vidal as a recognised right-back in the squad.

Barcelona’s sporting director recently played down a move to sign Bellerin, but did so in a coy way, by praising the defender and claiming he would have to be given a priority due to his knowledge of the club’s playing style.

He said: “To know how to play in Barcelona defensively is very difficult.

“You have to give importance to these players.”

Fernandez also described our right-back as a ‘fantastic player’, and it reeks of similar stuff to that which saw Cesc Fabregas return to Spain back in 2011.

We are not keen on losing our flourishing right-back after helping him progress into the player that he is today, and are lining up an improved contract to tie him to the club beyond his current deal.

Bellerin signed a new contract only last summer, but following another great season, which ended with him earning a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, he is more than worthy of improved terms.

The Spanish international is tied to the club until 2019 currently, but he is not amongst the highest earners at Arsenal, despite being one of the first names on the team sheet.

Do you think Bellerin will push for a return to Barcelona in the future? Could his recent call-up to the Spain team reduce the urge to return?
