Arsenal losing bartering battle for Player of Year

Arsenal appear likely to miss out on Rob Holding’s signature, with the club’s far from close to price-agreement.

The Gunners are claimed to have made an initial offer of £750,000 for the 20 year-old, which has been turned down, with the sides valuing the defender on completely different scales.

The Trotters are claimed to be in want of £7 Million for their young star, while the North-London side are only willing to go as high as £2 Million.

Tottenham are also believed to have joined the race to sign Holding, although he is said to favour a switch to Arsenal.

The centre-back was chosen to win the Bolton Player of the Year award, but with only one year remaining on his contract, looks likely to leave the club after enduring relegation to League One for the coming season.

His club are in financial straits, and are likely just trying to bump up his price-tag, but the situation is hardly in their favour. £2 Million sounds like a fair price for a young player who has just been relegated to League One, and is in the last year of his contract.

Should Bolton stand firm on their valuation, they will likely end up losing him for even less money in the following window, or even for a development fee at the end of the new season.

It is not yet known where Holding would slot into the Arsenal squad should he seal his move, with Gabriel, Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny  and Calum Chambers in the first-team squad vying for action currently.

Will Arsenal make more funds available for the youngster or will Bolton budge first?
