Arsenal move closer to signing Brazilian international star in January

Every Arsenal fan knows that the club is in desperate need of a strong defensive midfielder urgently and even Arsene Wenger has admitted that he needs a buy some defensive reinforcements in January (much to our surprise!) Recently it was reported that the Gunners were preparing to make a £9.5m offer for Spartak Moscow’s Romulo, while also allowing YaYa Sanogo to go to Russia for a year on loan.

Today it has been reported that the former Spartak star Valery Rheingold that the Russian giants should not stand in Romulo’s way and allow him to move to the Emirates. Rheingold was quoted as saying in the Express: “In general Romulo is a useful player who gets through a lot of work.”

“He is better than Rafael Carioca and the other Spartak options but I can’t say he’s indispensable.

“By nature he is not a leader. Yes, the Brazilian is a good player but if the offer is there to sell him you need to let him go.

“If Romulo learns that Spartak won’t let him go to Arsenal then he may harbour resentment and not play worse after the failed move.

“It is necessary for the Red and Whites to trust their youth academy graduates and stop relying so much on foreigners.”

Romulo may not be a household name in the UK, but surely the fact that he has played 8 times for the Brazilian national team must mean he is pretty talented, and at just 24 years of age he could have a long and successful career ahead of him at the right club. Could he be the player that Wenger has lined up for a January move?
