Arsenal move on to next target as Paulista gains work permit

The winter transfer window is now entering its final week and surprisingly Arsenal have already completed one deal with the news that the Brazilian defender Gabriel Paulista has been granted a work permit allowing him to join the Gunners at last.

But it seems that Wenger has not finished his business and has now turned his attention to the versatile Borussia Dortmund defender Kevin Grosskreutz. The previously successful Bundesliga side are currently languishing near the bottom of the League and their star players are becoming frustrated and are looking for ways out of the club.

Both Mats Hummels and Grosskeutz have been linked with moves to Arsenal and Man United this month, but it is unlikely that Dortmund would sanction the departures of both of them this winter. Hummels is expected to command a very large transfer fee, but according to the Express today, Grosskreutz can be purchased for just £3.7m. This seems like an excellent price for a 26 year-old that is comfortable playing on the right or left side of the defence.

Although brought up in Dortmund and spending his whole career there, Grosskreutz is said to be a fan of Arsenal and the rumours are saying that he is much keener on moving to the Emirates than joining Louis van Gaal at Man United. Whether that is true remains to be seen, but it is great to see that Wenger is making a concerted effort to plug the glaring gaps in the Arsenal squad.

If we end up with Bielik, Paulista and Gosskreutz by the end of the month, I for one will be a very happy Gooner!
