Arsenal player ratings from BATE _ Wilshere clear MOTM

Perhaps if Theo Walcott had scored his third goal and bagged his sixth hat-trick in Arsenal colours it would have made the choice of Man of the Match from the 4-2 win at BATE Borisov more difficult, but he didn’t and was a bit greedy in going for it. He really should have passed to the outstanding Gunner Jack Wilshere for a second half tap in which would have been well deserved because Jack was head and shoulders above the rest in Belarus.

Ospina 7- Some top quality and important saves from the Colombian.

Holding 7 – One goal and nearly a second. Mainly good but some mistakes later on.

Mertesacker 7 – Commanding most of the game but allowed the home team to come back at us.

Mustafi 7 – Loses his focus at times but some strong play as well.

Nelson 8 – Impressive especially considering his age. Bright future ahead.

Willock 8 – Next to break through on the strength of this game. Ability, discipline and power.

Elneny 7 – His experience should have helped us see out the game more comfortably.

Maitland-Niles 7 – Grew into the game and did well.

Walcott 8 – Looked sharp and scored two goals but can still improve decision making at times.

Wilshere 9 – Great to see Jack back and running things like that. Man got skills to burn!

Giroud 7 – Committed display rewarded with landmark century goal.
