Ramsey v Arsenal : The Contract Saga Continues…. by Hackenubee
At the start of the season, Unai Emery stated that Aaron Ramsey was one of the important players in the team and Ramsey also said he was excited to link up with the coach and the coach naming him as one of his five captains.
Fast forward to a couple of months later and things have begun to go downhill (off the pitch) between the important player and the club after the club withdrew their contract offer for a player with a little over six months remaining on his contract.
Quizzed about the situation, Ramsey said: “Hopefully somebody will come up and tell me why [the offer was withdrawn], I’ll accept that if there’s a reason. When the time is right, I probably will find out but that hasn’t happened yet. There is no contract on the table at the moment so there is nothing for me to consider or whatever. We all know that the contract was taken away off the table. I’m not sure exactly why because a few weeks before we sort of agreed and I was ready to sign.”
I’m trying to understand one of Ramsey’s claims here, not about him agreeing the offer (I can’t say I believe him on that front) but about the lack of explanation, the club rescind their contract offer and didn’t bother to explain why.
This is a player who has been with us for a decade, the longest serving Arsenal player currently in the team, the scorer of two FA Cup winning goals, a two time Arsenal Player Of The Year, a player with over half a century of goals etc and the club thought it was right to just rescind the offer and not offer an explanation.
Had it been the player, what will fans say? What will happen if the player returns to The Emirates later with a rival club? Even a player who contributed a lot less (other than his performance vs Barcelona and THAT goal vs Norwich) got a meeting with Emery where things were explained to him, where clarifications were made. I’m not saying the Club was wrong to rescind their offer, NO, but why act like the player is valueless and fringe? Why not provide a reason why the offer was withdrawn?
“We can’t afford your fee, so no contract” Fine…
“You won’t play much next season because of the style we want to implement” Fine…
“Your Name is Aaron and we don’t need an Aaron in our team” FINE..
Just give him an explanation, Ramsey deserves it for his years of service and the fans also deserve it.
This is a Club said to have “Class”, then let’s show it!!!
