Arsenal rumour update – Jenkinson, Campbell and Podolski

There is a dearth of new Arsenal transfer rumours regarding incoming players, despite Chelsea, Man United and Liverpool already having strengthened their squads, but then again, Arsene Wenger ALWAYS leaves his buying until the last minute.

But there are a few regarding present Arsenal players that could be freeing up space in the squad. First up there is a ridiculous (to me) rumour that Roberto Martinez is keen on taking Lukas Podolski to Everton. How he could fit into their hardworking ethic is beyond me, but maybe Martinez wants the German to take over running their Twitter and Facebook pages…

Joel Campbell is a tough one. He is definitely a promising talent and could well be a star of the future, but he always seems to be in the news looking for new club where he can play regularly. I don’t think that Wenger likes his attitude so I can honestly see him being surplus to requirements. The latest rumours are linking him to David Moyes Real Sociedad, after the club president Jokin Aperribay said: “He is an interesting player for La Real. However, at this time there is no negotiation regarding a transfer.

“We have to analyse the financial conditions that this transfer would pose.”

“He was saddened not to come to La Real in January and he would happily come back to play in the Spanish league,” Aperribay continued. “In any case we are in no hurry to make a signing.

“We need to be patient because the important thing is to sign the right player and to do so while respecting Real Sociedad’s budget.”

Campbell doesn’t seem to be against the idea, and seems to be encouraging the La Liga club to talk to Arsenal. “It’s an honour that a team like Real Sociedad want me, but I’m not the one who deals with these issues. My contract belongs to Arsenal and we will see what happens in the coming days or months”, he said.

I imagine that Campbell could be making this move and could become an excellent addition with lots of game time. Wherever he goes Arsenal will make a nice bit of profit!

Lastly there seems to be a tug of war for the loan of Carl Jenkinson next season. West Ham were expected to be frontrunners as he played so well there this season, but it was reported that were reluctant to pay the £2m loan fee. Sunderland’s boss Dick Advocaat seems quite happy to pay the full amount though, so Jenkinson may be able to look forward to an exciting relegation battle next season!

I hope Arsenal can clear out as many of the deadwood as they can quickly so that Wenger can start concentrating on bringing in those superstars!
