Jack Wilshere is tipped to take over from Mesut Ozil in the advanced midfield role on the long-term, with contract talks scheduled for December.
The German international is into the last year of his contract, and looks ever-likely to quit the club in the summer if not in January, and his creativity will be a loss to the first-team. Jack Wilshere has been filling in for him in the Europa League and Carabao Cup, and should he prove fit, will likely be playing in the Premier League in no time.
Wilshere is also into the final year of his present deal also however, and there has been plenty of speculation regarding his future also, but he has once again expressed his wish to stay with Arsenal, revealing scheduled talks before the winter transfer window.
“I’ve been here 10 years, I love this club and feel like I have a special relationship with the fans,” Wilshere said.
“Of course I want to stay.
“At the moment I’m concentrating on getting into the Premier League team. I’ve been playing quite a lot of football and I’m happy with where I am fitness wise but I want to be playing for Arsenal in the league.
“We’ll see [about contract negotiations]. Christmas is coming up, I’ve heard the manager saying they’ll talk to me before then so we’ll see.”
There has been talk that Arda Turan could well be targeted as another player who could take Ozil’s place in the Arsenal first-team, but a fit Wilshere would be more than able to bring that creative flair into our side.
If Wilshere makes it through the season unscathed, could we risk relying on him to replace Ozil long-term?
