Arsenal slammed for poor treatment of young star

Arsenal fans will have to wait and see what Arsene Wenger does with this young Gunner when he returns from playing for the Germany national team at the Rio Olympics, because if last season was anything to go by then Serge Gnabry could find himself out in the cold and on loan to another club once again.

Not many Gooners complained when the young winger was sent off to West Brom last season, as he had not been fit and was not in great form, and the lack of action he saw with the Baggies under Tony Pulis did nothing to alter that perception.

Gnabry was brought back early after failing to impress the West Brom boss and it looked like his career was in danger of going down the plughole, but the manager of Germany’s Olympic team Horst Hrubesch kept faith with the winger and so far he has been richly rewarded with three goals from the first two games.

That encouraged the German coach to hit out at the way Gnabry has been dealt with by Arsenal, claiming that Wenger has not showed enough belief in the talented youngster and suggesting that he should now be given a lot more chances at club level to prove himself.

Hrubesch said, “He did really well twice, but that doesn’t come as a surprise to me,” he said. “Over the last two years he wasn’t always fully fit. What annoys me is that people at his club have never given him enough trust during that time.

“And you can see now what an important player he can be and at what level he can play at. He showed that to everyone and hopefully he will now get the opportunities at his club to play in that position.”

Gnabry himself has admitted that the last two years have been difficult for him but if he keeps going the way he is then I reckon we will soon be seeing him in the red and white of Arsenal again.
