Arsenal star on fire at Rio Olympics – Asano out

I am not sure how pleased the majority of Arsenal fans will be with the fact that the Arsenal forwards seem to be doing their best to convince Arsene Wenger that he does not need to use the last few scratchings of the summer transfer window to add to the firepower of the Gunners, but let us just hope that he signs a top class player to compete with Olivier Giroud and all anyway.

The likes of Alex Iwobi, Joel Campbell and Theo Walcott have certainly suggested during pre-season that they are good options for the boss and perhaps this is because they know that there is a tough fight ahead of them for a first team place and regular football with Arsenal.

That will be even more true when Serge Gnabry gets back from Rio, where he is representing Germany at the 2016 Olympics. The dynamic young Gunner is not coming home yet though, because after his goals kept Germany in with a chance of qualifying for the next round, his country grabbed it with both hands by thrashing Fiji 10-0 to book a quarter-final spot against Portugal.

Once again Gnabry found the back of the net and it was his opening goal that opened the floodgates. He also got a second to make it five goals from three matches at the tournament and this must surely have earned him another chance to prove himself for Arsenal.

Unfortunately the other Arsenal player in Brazil, the summer signing Takuma Asano, did not make it through even though his Japan team won their last game, because the already qualified Nigeria took it easy and lost to Colombia, but the new Gunner did himself liots of good with his all-round play and a goal in each of the first two group games.

Good times ahead for these Gunners do you think?
