No room for Champions League stupidity warns Arsenal star

The situation for Arsenal in the Champions League competition right now is still very precarious and even another positive result against one of the pre-tournament favourites to win the whole thing might not be enough to get the Gunners into the knockout phase.

Winning at home against Bayern Munich has certainly given Arsenal a chance though and it has obviously given the players a major morale boost. But our Brazil international defender Gabriel is a little concerned that it might have gone to our heads.

So the centre back has warned his team mates in an Arsenal.com report that despite keeping the Germans from scoring at home and hitting them brilliantly on the break, we must be extra careful about how we try to get forward at the Allianz arena tomorrow. Gabriel wants everyone to keep in their minds that a draw would not be too bad and that we do not need to push for all three points.

But he also feels confident ahead of the game and after nobody expected us to beat Bayern after losing the opening two games with Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos, he knows that anything is possible, as long as the Gunners approach it in the right way.

He said, “I think we feel more confident within the competition than after the first two games. We had two defeats and we felt a bit down but the group is very strong, so we managed to overcome that and we managed to recover against a great team that will probably fight to win the competition as well.

“With this victory, we managed to get up and running and realise that anything is possible in football, thanks to the confidence and ability of all the players.

“I think at home we were able to impose ourselves a lot more. We attacked a bit more but I think when we play away, we also have to have a slightly different outlook.

“That doesn’t mean we’ll spend the whole game defending. We’re a big team, we’re Arsenal and we need to attack because we need the result.

“But we need to attack with intelligence and make sure we don’t suffer a defeat and complicate our situation for the rest of our competition.”

So it sounds like it will be a difficult balancing act for Arsenal in Munich, but can we get it right and can we really get out of this group?
