Norwich manager Daniel Farke has claimed that Arsenal players apologised to him for a penalty decision which wasn’t given in their League Cup tie on Tuesday night.
The Canaries lost to the Gunners in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup encounter in extra time, thanks to a late equaliser in normal time by Eddie Nketiah, before the 18 year-old also scored the only goal of extra time to seal the win.
The visitors boss is aggrieved by the result, having led the match for over half of the full 90, and the decision not to allow his side a penalty when his side were ahead in the match seems to have cost his side strongly.
“I don’t have to interpret it because several Arsenal players said ‘sorry for you but it was a clear penalty’,” Farke said. “I don’t have to add anything to these comments.”
Unfortunately for the Championship side there was also another decision which the manager feels favoured the Gunners, with Mohamed Elneny only receiving a yellow card when bringing down striker Nelson Oliveira.
“I’m not the guy who claims for red cards but this situation was obvious, it was a one-vs-one to the goalkeeper and that’s nearly 100 per cent 2-0. That’s the determining situation of the game and we’re in the next round.
“Obviously he should have seen a red card. Then it’s 11 against 10 and they are not able to build so much pressure. There aren’t all these set pieces and it isn’t 1-1. To accept this situation is really hard but sometimes you have to accept mistakes. I’m pretty sure the ref wants to show his best performance.”
