Arsenal target Reus transfer to cover Walcott NOT Alexis

I must admit to being a little bit underwhelmed when I read one of the latest Arsenal transfer rumours connecting the club to a possible January move for the Borussia Dortmund and Germany star Marco Reus.

This was not because I see the German forward as not the right sort of player to improve the Gunners. Far from it, as I highly rate the 27-year old and would love to see him pull on the old red and white of Arsenal. The reason for my somewhat unenthusiastic reading of the rumour in the Daily Mail was that Reus was only being considered as a replacement player in case Alexis Sanchez decided not to extend his contract with Arsenal.

Forgive me if I am missing something here, but is our Chilean striker not now established as a top class centre forward? And if so then why would Arsene Wenger be looking at Reus as a replacement? The German is a real attacking force but usually from the flanks or from a deeper position. If any Arsenal star was going to be replaced by the Dortmund star it would be Theo Walcott, who just happens to have picked up another injury.

I and most Arsenal fans would love to see Reus come to play for the Gunners, and the rumour suggests that our manager feels the same way, but if the Frenchman was looking to find cover for Alexis he would be looking at a centre forward would he not?
