Despite Wenger’s protestations that Arsenal have enough strikers already on the books, and the ongoing prediction that Danny Welbeck will be back in the squad shortly (yeah yeah), the Gunners continue to be linked with classy strikers that are at least as good as the ever-injured Englishman.
The real fact of the matter is that we are one injury to Theo Walcott away from having Olivier Giroud as our only Number Nine for the next couple of months, and for a club of our size aiming for the League title, is an unnecessary risk as far as I am concerned.
So the news today in a detailed report from El Mundo Deportivo, from their Barcelona correspondent, has revealed that although Barcelona have been making enquiries for the Celta Vigo striker Nolito they are unlikely to be making a bid until the summer. Javier Gascon goes on to reveal that this could backfire on them as Arsenal and an un-named Italian side are both willing to pay the 18 million Euro buy-out clause this month.
This is exactly the type of versatile player that Arsenal need right now, as he can play as a winger or a striker, and anyone who can score 8 La Liga goals in 10 games (while not playing for Madrid or Barcelona) is definitely worth taking a chance on, especially for a price that works out at just over 14m GBP without any haggling.
Just this once Wenger, please don’t gamble on our players fitness this season when we are in with a real chance of the title. Just go to Spain and pay the buyout clause right now and it will give the players and fans a real boost ahead of the second half of the season. PLEASE!
