Arsenal’s striker hunt rollercoaster continues

Arsenal have been eagerly trying to bring in a striker this summer, but Alexandre Lacazette does seem likely to end our hunt for one.

The Frenchman was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates this summer, following moves to sign Alvaro Morata and Jamie Vardy falling through, but Arsene Wenger is now claimed to be unwilling to pay the asking price to sign Lacazette.

Lyon are believed to be in want of £42 Million, and are in no rush to sell especially following their recent £21 Million sale of Samuel Umtiti to Barcelona.

The Frenchman scored 21 goals in his 34 Ligue outings this season, following on from scoring 27 in 33 appearances the year before.

He was a surprise exclusion from Didier Deschamps France international squad, but the manager will have little to complain about, having led his country to the final, which will take place on Sunday.

Olivier Giroud has been playing the first-choice role up front for his country, with Antoine Griezmann seemingly given a free role in behind him, but the striker has little competition at club level for the coming campaign.

Theo Walcott has struggled over the past eight months, and Danny Welbeck has been ruled out until at least February currently, leaving the France international with no natural rival to keep him up for the challenge.

Takuma Asano has joined the club in the past month, but at 21 years-of-age, it is not clear whether he will be expected to vie for a first-team role this season.

Should no main striker be persuaded to make the move to Arsenal, the Japanese international will likely be given a chance to back-up Giroud, but fans will no doubt be greatly frustrated with a failed transfer window, especially having looked close to landing a number of top strike targets.

Who else should we try and land this summer?
