Arsenal’s success is due to KEEPING our star players

Wenger has Gone From Signing Replacements for World-Class Players to Actually Buying World-Class Players! by AT

Following the 3-1 victory over Hull City at the KC stadium, the Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger spoke in regards to his plans for the summer transfer window. While he admitted that he is indeed content with the ‘strong’ squad available to him and will not be signing many players to add to it, he did go on to say that he will only be looking at world-class players to bring in to the Emirates.

The Frenchman told Sky Sports: “We have a big squad – the basis is there. We do not need to buy a number of players. If we can get top, world-class players we will look at it, but we have a very strong squad already in number and we want to stay together and start well next season.”

Looking back at the big-money signings of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, it is easy to realise that Wenger has indeed turned a corner in regards to his approach to the transfer market. On analysing the squad, I think most Gooners would agree with the veteran tactician that the squad does have good depth, we just need a little world-class quality in a couple of positions.

A very crucial factor that has aided Wenger in his new approach is that since the departure of Robin van Persie to Manchester United in 2012, Arsenal have managed to keep hold of all their key players. As a result of this solidarity, a new signing has been more like a strong addition to the squad than a replacement for a key player who has departed from the club.

On saying that, I believe Arsene Wenger has got his approach spot-on for the the approaching transfer window. The Arsenal squad is strong in terms of depth and even more so in terms of quality, we just need a bit of world-class cutting edge to close the gap on Chelsea for next season. Here’s hoping that Le Prof can pull off more signings like those of Ozil and Sanchez when the transfer window reopens at the end of the season.
