Arsenal’s Xhaka needs time to adapt to his new club

Granit Xhaka needs to be patient as he looks to settle at Arsenal, the player’s brother claimed.

The Swiss international could be in line to start for the Gunners tomorrow against his brother’s side Basel, having impressed in his rare outings so far this term.

Granit Xhaka has scored two spectacular long range strikes in recent weeks, and looks like he will get his chance to impress, with Francis Coquelin currently ruled out through injury.

The French midfielder has been part of Arsene Wenger’s favoured central pairing, alongside Santi Cazorla so far this year, with Mohamed Elneny and Xhaka forced to wait for their chances.

The summer signing has now been told that he must be patient as he looks to get his Arsenal career into full swing, ahead of the pair look to go head-to-head for the second time in a matter of months.

Taulant Xhaka said: “He needs to be patient but he knows this and I am sure he can progress there.

“Arsene Wenger is a coach who takes a lot of young players – he gives them confidence and also tries to help them as people.

“It was the same when he moved to Germany, he needed time but he learnt a lot. He changed, became more self-confident, more open to people. It was a good step to join Arsenal.

“Granit is very comfortable, very integrated. He is very happy there and he has already scored some super goals.”

Taulant also revealed that he is in constant contact with his sibling, and is hoping a win over his Arsenal relative will convince his boss to allow him time to converse with Granit.

He added: “We speak every day, but before a game sometimes not because we have to focus. We won’t tell each other how the teams play – we are professional.

“I hope that after the game we can meet quickly. I need to ask the coach, so hopefully we win and he’s in a good mood.”

Does Xhaka deserve to start tomorrow’s encounter? Does Granit deserve to be a first-team regular on his performances this far?
