#ArtetaOut! Will Arsenal fans now unite behind Unai Emery?

If there is one thing I am sure of is that the Arsenal fans were just as divided over the possibility of Mikel Arteta being the Gunners new manager as they were about Arsene Wenger carrying on his 22 year reign at the Emirates.

Just as everyone thought it was done and dusted, we finally get the bombshell that Arteta has now been discarded and the latest hot favourite for the job is the outgoing PSG coach Unai Emery, who is certainly far more experienced than Arteta.

Both BBC and SkySports have both confirmed that Emery is expected to be announced this week, and the Sky Spanish expert Guilleme Blague has revealed that the Gunners did not just have the two candidates to choose from. He said: “Arsenal have been speaking to ten different managers, ten different candidates, and it got to a point where they had to make a decision.

“Some of the candidates did not have much similar to each other. They were looking for a series of things which eventually led them to make Emery the number one candidate.

“Arteta was one of those ten and came closest but at the end maybe the lack of experience worked against him.

“I’m sure from minute one he would have said he lacks experience himself. He had other things which Arsenal were impressed about.

“Emery has the experience, has won trophies and done it with directors of football wherever he has been. Valencia, Sevilla and PSG as well.

“I’m not sure about this thing about embodying the shadow of Arsene Wenger – that is dangerous.

“He is his own man. He will work within the structure, he will make the team flexible.

“He will sharpen everybody up and will make sure the players come out onto the pitch knowing their obligations and responsibilities.

“There has been a lot of [emphasis] in training and you will see that in the way Arsenal shape up in the future.”

That news will certainly cheer up a lot of the Arsenal fans, many of whom were already setting up #ArtetaOut campaigns, so it will be interesting to see what Gooners think about the credentials of Emery now he has been named as the hot favourite for the job. Is every happy just to get “anyone but Arteta”???
