Aubameyang medical confirmed by Sky – and Wenger on Giroud leaving Arsenal?

This is the one that all Arsenal fans have been waiting for and we are now getting close to celebration time. Sky Sports have just confirmed that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is right now having his medical at London Colney ahead of signing for the Gunners.

The Sky report said: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was undergoing a medical at Arsenal on Wednesday morning ahead of a £60m move.

Arsene Wenger appeared to confirm the Aubameyang deal had been completed following Arsenal’s 3-1 defeat to Swansea on Tuesday in a video leaked online.

But, speaking to reporters after the game, Wenger declined to confirm he was confident the deal would go through and described the transfer as “complicated”.

Complicated is certainly the word, with the unbelievable rumours that Olivier Giroud is set to sign for our local rivals Chelsea, and Wenger gave a little tribute to the Frenchman after his cameo role in last night’s defeat at Swansea when asked if Giroud is leaving. The Boss replied: “That will all be decided tomorrow [Wednesday], you know. As usual, [things happen on the] final day and we will know more about that tomorrow.”

Wenger was then asked if it was unusual for a departing player to be called upon at such a crucial point, and he added: “It’s a tribute to Olivier, yes. He is a guy who gave great service to the club, he never let us down on the commitment front and he saved us many times. I have absolutely no doubt that when I ask him if he is ready to commit and he says yes, I have no problem with that. That is why I put him on, because it was needed and unfortunately he couldn’t help us.”

And as for why Giroud had to leave in this window, Le Prof reasoned: “Olivier is an Arsenal man and after that he needs to play as well. He has not played many games in the Premier League since the start of the season and he is a regular player in the French national team. There is a World Cup where France will go, the places are of course very difficult to get and at some stage it was a difficult situation for him. But he always had his heart 100 per cent in the team and he was committed.”
