Bournemouth’s Head of Medical Department Dr Craig Roberts has revealed the extent that his club have gone to in order to help Arsenal loanee Jack Wilshere recover from his string of injuries over the years.
The midfielder has more than half of each of the three previous seasons with the Gunners previously, but has managed to remain fit for almost the whole season whilst with the Cherries.
Questions have been raised over whether Arsenal’s style of play or training regimes were the reason why he has failed to prove his fitness in previous years, but maybe our medical team haven’t been working on him in the correct manner.
The Bournemouth medical team have worked closely with him, and managed to maintain him extremely well, and their head of department has given more insight in his time there.
“Jack has had a lot of overuse-type injuries over the years,” Dr Roberts said.
“He’s had some traumatic ones as well, which every player can get, but he’s a player who is prone to break down if the load is too high.
“For us, particularly given that he hadn’t played a lot leading up to joining us, we were very, very strict in terms of the amount of training he would do in the week leading up to a game.
“There is a lot of new interesting data coming out in terms of looking at acute verse chronic load and matching up how much you can do this week based on what you have been doing for the last four weeks.”
Does this raise questions over our own medical team? Will Jack be able to come back to Arsenal stronger next season?
