Can Arsenal and Chelsea really condemn Tottenham to the Europa League?

There is an interesting scenario that could happen this season if the current League positions of Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal remain the same until the end of the season. It has been highlighted by the famous Tim Stillman from Arseblog to day on Twitter…

Okay, this is a possible scenario and cannot be totally discounted, but it is certainly not probable in any dimension that we currently reside in!

The fact is that, first of all, Chelsea have to go on and win the Champions League. This is possible but it may be worth noting that after the 1-1 draw against Barcelona at Stamford Bridge in the first leg of their current Champions league tie, they now have to go to the Camp Nou and get a minimum of another 1-1 draw to have a chance to progress. I have had a look at Barcelona’s home form, and other than a pre-season Super Cup defeat to Real Madrid, they have not lost a competitive game at home for SIXTEEN MONTHS and they haven’t lost a home Champions League match for FIVE YEARS! So although it is possible that Chelsea could go through it is not likely, eh? And even if the did, Conte’s team would still have seven other brilliant possible opponents to get past to win the trophy.

Even more unlikely is the chances of Arsenal getting past AC Milan to get to the quarter finals of the Europa League, and anyone who would bet on them to win the competition must be living in dreamland right now, so the chances of BOTH of those scenarios coming to fruition is actually astronomical (actually 260/1, i just checked!) so let’s say on the balance of probabilities we are unlikely to stop Tottenham getting into the Champions League!
