Can Arsenal’s ‘underdog’ tag aid their bid to glory over Man City?

Charlie Nicholas has claimed that Arsenal could take advantage of their role as ‘underdog’ in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.

The Gunners take on Manchester City this weekend as they look to win the League Cup for the first time under Arsene Wenger, but will have an uphill task given the season their opponents are having.

Some have claimed that this season’s league leaders are worthy of comparison with the Invincibles of 2004, and they have already amassed a huge 16 point-gap over their nearest league rivals.

Former Gunner Nicholas insists that their role as underdogs may well aid their bid for glory, and the fact that Liverpool recently put them to the sword could guide the way.

Charlie Nicholas said: “It’s always the problems with the smaller teams, and they’ve been lucky this season. The challenge of the great team they’re facing here can help.

“It can suit them more. What’s he got to fear? They’re underdogs, they were underdogs against Chelsea last season, and in the semi-finals this season, and they got through it.

“They are beatable. You can get at Manchester City, Liverpool showed the way forward.

“Arsenal are a poor man’s Liverpool at the moment, it’s picking that right pass for Ozil, getting Ramsey in the team, and Arsenal have to go open this game up.

“It’s a free swing for Arsenal, they’re going to take a risk at the back because they have to.”

Will Arsenal relish their underdog tag? Can we beat City like we did Chelsea last season?
