Chambers – Arsenal attacked together AND defended together

The new Arsenal defender Calum Chambers has settled into the Arsenal starting XI very quickly and has become an integral part of the squad. He particularly enjoyed his first Champions League game at the Emirates and thinks that the team spirit held together well. The whole Arsenal team destroyed Galatasary in the first half even though we had to go into defensive mode after Wojciech Szczesny was sent off against the Turks.

Chambers said: “I think we showed a great work ethic together,”

“We went down to 10 men and we still held on.

“Everyone worked really hard and showed how much they wanted it. We showed our quality tonight basically.

“We knew that we had to defend and that everyone would have to defend when we were down to 10 men but if you get a chance to go and score, you take it to try and get a better advantage for yourselves.

“We had to concentrate on defending when we were down to 10 men and I thought we did that really well.”

The youngster also had to express his admiration for Danny Welbeck, who was only playing his fifth game for the Gunners and has also seemed to slot seamlessly into the “Arsenal way”. “He’s an athlete – he’s got pace, power, he’s great on the ball,” Chambers said. “He’s willing to work hard and you can see that he’s a goalscorer.

“He’s everything that you can ask for really. He works hard and he’s a great influence.

“Danny has settled in really well. When I first came, I said that the bunch of lads and the staff here were so welcoming. It’s hard not to really settle in quickly!”

The only other new arrival in the starting XI was Alexis Sanchez, who also got on the scoresheet, and when David Ospina was brought on he was excellent as Arsenal fought off the onslaught from Galatasary in the last half hour.

These four were an excellent example of new players NOT needing months to settle into a new club. Perhaps Arsenal really are doing something right….
