I may be reading too much into one of the statements made by Arsene Wenger and reported on the Arsenal website this week, but then again I may not. I certainly not trust our current manager or anyone from the Arsenal board to be either completely honest or to not keep us fans and the football media in the dark about the search for a new manager to replace the Frenchman in the summer.
To be honest I can perfectly understand why Wenger and the board might want to play their cards close to the chest on the matter, as there is a theory that it would not do the team’s chances any good if they knew that the boss was about to quit.
Also, the club might feel it would be easier to look for and appoint a new manager if it could be done without the intense glare of the media spotlight, so I just wonder if when Wenger spoke about looking for a coach with the right values to suit Arsenal, he was not talking about a man to replace Andries Jonker at all, but himself, or even maybe to find two people to fill both roles.
Wenger said, “We have many candidates and we have a lot of time now to choose the best one.
“That’s a process we have started and ideally you want people with the Arsenal spirit.
“We have special values here. If it could be a person who reflects our values, then of course that would be even better.”
Do you think this could be a smokescreen so Arsenal can interview potential managerial candidates? Has Wenger already decided to quit?
