Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette is said to be keen on moving clubs, but should Arsenal shell out the big-money fee needed to land him?
The 25 year-old has scored 20 goals in his 24 appearances in all competitions this season, continuing his fine goalscoring record since the 2013-14 season, proving to be one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe’s top leagues.
Lacazette has now bagged himself 80 league goals over the past three and a half seasons, and has been linked with a number of clubs.
Jean Michael Aulas, the Lyon club president, has claimed that he has already turned down offers from £35 Million up to £60 Million for his signature already this month, but the player’s friend and former team-mate Samuel Umtiti claims he has the desire to join a bigger club.
Umtiti said: “I have a lot of respect for Lyon, they’re one of the biggest French clubs.
“But there will come a time when he could leave to improve.
“He’ll have that desire, I know his character. He’s waiting for the right moment.”
Arsenal have been one of a number of potential suitors linked with his potential capture in recent windows, and fans have been crying out for a top striker to join the club in recent years.
Lucas Perez was signed last summer, exciting fans with the thought that a new striker had finally arrived, but he has prove to be more of a wide forward than the out-and-out striker we have been calling our for, and we still don’t look like we are ready to win the Premier League this year, not to mention the Champions League.
Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud have been in top form this season, but we are still lacking a key ingredient, that something special that could see us go on the kind of winning run the league leaders have enjoyed.
I’m unsure as to whether a new striker is that special something that leaves us trailing our rivals, or whether our midfield is more likely to be our weakest link currently.
I’ve remained an Olivier Giroud fan throughout his ups and downs, but he is yet to prove that he can challenge the best forwards in the league for the Premier League Golden Boy, while Alexis Sanchez however is already one goal short of the Frenchman’s highest league tally in a Gunners shirt (16).
Would Lacazette bring us the firepower needed to torment the English top division, and possibly bring us closer to the other elite sides in Europe? Is a top central midfielder more important to our progress?
