Did Mahrez snub Arsenal or the other way around?

The facts of the matter are that the reported Arsenal transfer target Riyad Mahrez has this week signed a new contract that will keep him at his current club Leicester City until 2020, as reported by Sky Sports and other sources.

We do not know for sure, but the reports are also suggesting that there is no release clause in the new deal, so the chances of any club, including our own, signing the Algerian international this summer are now almost zero. A lot of papers and websites reporting this are taking the tone that Mahrez has snubbed a possible move to Arsenal, just as his Foxes team mate Jamie Vardy did earlier in the summer, but is that really the case?

Just a few days ago the player himself was talking about there being a few clubs that he would find hard to turn down and it seems to me that this was meant to encourage any potential suitors to make a move. Perhaps the reason Mahrez has now signed a contract extension is because nobody did.

So was it the decision of Arsenal and Arsene Wenger not to go for Mahrez instead of it being the other way around?
