The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger finally fielded his most expensive trio of players together in a big game as we claimed all three points against Tottenham Hotspur. Mesut Ozil, Alexandre Lacazette and Alexis Sanchez started the match against Spurs, having been overlooked previously against Manchester City and Liverpool, and all three of them played a part in the goals which led us to our win.
Mesut Ozil took the free-kick which found Shkodran Mustafi’s head for the opening goal, before Lacazette found himself through into the opposition box, before slotting in Alexis Sanchez to put the game to bed at 2-0, and you have to ask yourself why they were not starting together in our previous outing against City.
The German international has now admitted how happy he is to play alongside his fellow team-mates, labelling his partners in crime as ‘dangerous’. “I really enjoy it, we have good quality,” Ozil said. “Lacazette and Alexis are always dangerous, they can always score and today especially Alexis showed his quality.
“I am really happy for him to score against Tottenham and I’m really thankful to win this game.”
He added: “We are happy, the fans are happy and we are happy to have Musti [Mustafi] back. He showed his quality today and you see our defence is more stable and more compact.”
Surely this performance will have proven to Arsene that the trio should be starting every match together when available, or at least all the key encounters which will be the toughest challenges. Lacazette didn’t score, but he did impress and put in a very strong performance leading the line, and our attacking players were even pressing the Spurs defence forcing them into making mistakes.
Will this result force Wenger to play the trio in future key matches? Should they have all played in the other key matches?
