DONE DEAL? Arsenal finally agree defensive midfielder transfer

It has been over nine years since Arsenal lost the services of one of the best midfielders the club has ever had in Patrick Vieira. And three years later we also said goodbye to the Brazilian international Gilberto Silva who had done a great job giving the Gunners some real steel in the middle of the park.

And now it appears that Arsene Wenger has finally joined the consensus of opinion that Arsenal need another player of that ilk if we are to turn our creative talent into a Premier League title and regular trophies. If you believe some of the many recent Arsenal transfer rumours, then Wenger may have been close to signing a powerful central midfielder during this summer transfer window.

However, according to a Daily Star report, the Frenchman has finally made up his mind and it is the German World Cup winner Sami Khedira that he will bring to the Emirates. The paper claims that the transfer is almost agreed already, with Arsenal and the player having come to terms over the personal side of the move.

All that is left is for us to agree the transfer fee with his current club Real Madrid, who know that January is their last chance to get any money for the 27-year old before he walks away for nothing at the end of the season. And Arsenal might even be able to play Khedira in the Champions League, assuming we are still in it, because he has not played for his La Liga club so far this season
