Emery keen on Arsenal contract for star defender – but for how long?

Nacho Monreal may be getting on a bit, but he is still two years younger than Stephan Lichtsteiner, who looks like a spring chicken on the pitch. The Arsenal left-back has already stated that he is very happy to stay with the Gunners, when he said: I’ve always said I am really happy, I feel very happy playing for Arsenal.

“I came six years ago. I have a good relationship with them. We are in contact in any moment so don’t worry about that. I am happy here. That is the most important thing.”

“That is my idea, that is what I want,”

And now the coach Unai Emery has also given his blessing for the Spaniard, as he said in today’s press conference: “First, I knew Nacho Monreal in Spain when he was playing in Osasuna and at Malaga. After six years here, I came here and I know him as a new Nacho Monreal,” Emery said.

“After two weeks, after two months and now, I can say that I am very happy with him because he is 32 years old but I think physically, with his performances with us in matches, he is playing with a very good level.

“The rest of that, for me, is very important. I think we need to find a new contract with him to stay with the Arsenal team.”

So now I’m guessing the only question is how long will the new contract be? Lichtsteiner just got a one-year contract, so will Monreal get the same?
