It is a good thing that the Arsenal boss has a pretty good understanding and working relationship with his opposite number from the England national team, because Arsene Wenger may have to ask for a helping hand from Roy Hodgson over the next week or so.
Wenger is not the sort to do a Fergie and invent some minor injury problem and force his players to miss out on international duty and I am not sure it would work anyway as Welbeck has been out of action for so long that he will be desperate to remind Hodgson just what he can do for England ahead of the Euro 2016 tournament.
However, Arsenal could really do with England doing us a favour by looking at Welbeck in the game against Germany on Saturday and then resting him or using him sparingly next Tuesday against Holland. Why? Because Arsenal need our England striker to be fit and fresh to start against Watford on Saturday as Wenger will not be able to start Alexis Sanchez or Joel Campbell.
Both are set to be back very late from the break as Chile and Costa Rica have World Cup qualifiers on the other side of the globe late on Wednesday night. The Arsenal boss has already spoken about the doubts over Welbeckâs ability to play two games in quick succession so can Hodgson and England rescue this potential Arsenal striker crisis?
