Euro 2016 hands another big boost to Arsenal EPL hopes

The chances of the Euro 2016 dream going on for Wales and their Arsenal midfield star Aaron Ramsey took a big boost today, with the BBC reporting that the Tottenham and Belgium defender Jan Vertonghen picked up an injury in training and will miss the game and the rest of the tournament.

And while it is not right to be happy about a player getting injured, he is a pud and with him set to miss the start of the season with our north London rivals I have to see it as good news for the Gunners as well. Of course there is always the chance that Ramsey or another of our players still involved picks up an injury but with very few of them still going in France the chances are much smaller than usual.

I also think that Spurs could well suffer from the awful and humiliating way that England got on, especially as a lot of the blame is falling on the heavy Spurs contingent that everyone thought was such a good idea when they were flying a few months back.

It would be surprising if the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Kyle Walker and Danny Rose were not affected by their poor performances and the huge criticism aimed at them since bowing out with a whimper against Iceland. The same could be said of Jack Wilshere but he was not even fit and not a regular starter and he might not be for Arsenal either.

I wonder if Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are now feeling a lot better about missing out?

All our South American players came through the Copa America unscathed as well, bar a swollen ankle for Alexis Sanchez, while key players like Cazorla, Monreal, Mertesacker, Bellerin and Coquelin should be fresh and fit after not playing all summer.

Now if we can just get Ozil, Giroud, Ramsey and KOscielny back in one piece, will this be a very helpful summer for Arsenal?
