Fantastic focus helped `jaded´Arsenal to top of EPL

I think it would have been really harsh on Arsenal if Everton had got anything out of the game, despite what Roberto Martinez said about out goals being soft and them having two very good chances to score late on. He seemed to have conveniently forgotten that we also hit the woodwork twice through Giroud and Ozil and that their own goal came from a lucky deflection.

But in a way he was right because we could have come away with just a point. Football is like that. Arsene Wenger spoke to Sky Sports after the game and he admitted that he was on edge as we went into the latter stages, knowing that the players had put in a huge shift against Bayern Munich that was bound to take it´s toll.

You could see that we were tiring and with Everton having no midweek game, they smelled blood so the Frenchman was delighted with the way we dug in. No wonder he was proud because he would have asked the players to stay focused and fight until the end, but that does not necessarily mean that the tired minds and legs will be able to do it.

Wenger said, “I was a bit edgy at the end because I thought the last 20 minutes could be difficult.

“When you you win such a big game, and the way we did it on Tuesday night, and you can win straight after again, that tells you a lot about the mentality of the team. You have to be highly focused to do that.”

“That´s why I´m very proud of the players today because they showed the same focus to win it. We were maybe a bit jaded physically but the focus was there.”

It certainly was and that makes it four EPL wins in a row since the robbery at Stamford Bridge. Next up for the Gunners is a bit of a bogey team in Swansea City, so will the focus remain and see us get some revenge on Garry Monk´s team?
