Former Arsenal star calls for Vieira-type to be signed

David Seaman has revealed what he thinks Arsene Wenger should be doing in the transfer market for Arsenal this summer.

The Gunners have so far signed Granit Xhaka and Takuma Asano to their ranks, to cover for the loss of Mathieu Flamini, Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky, who all left at the end of their contracts this summer.

They have also been actively trying to sign a top striker also, but have so far failed to bring in any of their targets.

David Seamen has now claimed that they need three more signings, and one of which needs to be somebody who will excite the fans.

“We still need a dominant centre-half,” the 52-year-old told talkSPORT.

“We’ll see what Granit [Xhaka]’s like in midfield, but ideally we need someone like Patrick Vieira.

“And a striker as well.

“He needs to buy someone to give the club a lift and give the fans a lift.

“Ideally a striker would be great, but either a centre-half or midfielder would do for me.”

We all know how necessary it is to sign a striker, and with news that Per Mertesacker could be promoted to captain for the new season, pretty much rules out his exit, and could well see us stick with our current domestic options.

Wenger has previously hinted that he wanted to sign only three players, although the Japanese striker may not be given an immediate role within the first-team, and we could still expect two more signings, one of which is bound to be a forward.

Should we now expect a midfield and attacking addition this summer? Is Seaman right to call for a Vieira type addition? Is there any on the market?
