Former Gunners says Khedira transfer means Arsenal STILL have title chance

The Arsenal transfer rumours about the Germany midfielder Sami Khedira did not stop when the summer transfer window closed. If anything, they have increased and plenty of media outlets, including the Daily Star, seem to think that Arsene Wenger will be going back in January to sign the 27-year old fr4om Real Madrid.

And this one transfer could be the difference between Arsenal falling short of our goals again and actually putting in a strong and realistic title challenge, according to the former Gunner and France international Robert Pires. He told the Daily Telegraph that Khedira is just the right player to complete the missing piece of the puzzle for Arsenal, as his strength, experience, ability and aggression in the centre of the pitch reminds Pires of a certain former team mate of his called Patrick Vieira.

I hope that Pires is talking about how Khedira could transform the Gunners into serious contenders because he has some insider knowledge through his relationship with Arsene Wenger, because with the team currently sitting down in a lowly eighth position in the Premier League, it certainly feels like we need something to happen.

Pires said, “The quality is there but you need more, maybe [someone] like Yaya Toure in middle. He reminds me of Patrick Vieira, maybe they have an opportunity with Khedira. It is likely in the January window. He played very well with Germany. My advice is if he can buy Khedira he can be the [new] Vieira, more aggression in the middle. He has a lot of experience. When you play in the middle you need experience, especially when your midfield is young like Arsenal’s.

“They have nine points difference with Chelsea but we can still win the league. It’s very difficult but in football everything is possible.”

There is a belief that Madrid will be willing to sell Khedira in January for as little as £10 million because it will be their last chance to get anything for him before his contract runs out next summer. And the German is apparently keen to move on as just two sub appearances so far this season explains why he has had enough of Real Madrid under Carlo Ancelotti.

Until January, however, it is vital that Arsenal stay in touch with the top of the table, so it would be nice if someone could knock Chelsea off their stride a bit. Do you think Arsenal will sign Khedira and if so, will he make the difference that Pires claims?
