Freddie Ljungberg drops big hint over who will be Arsenal captain

Highly likely Freddie Ljungberg will keep Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as Arsenal captain

Arsenal will begin the post-Emery era this Sunday when they visit Norwich City in the Premier League. One big question that appears to have been answered is, who will be the Arsenal captain when they face Norwich.

Unai Emery allowed the club’s stars to select their captain and they chose Granit Xhaka, however, the Swiss midfielder was stripped of the armband when he swore at the fans in their game against Crystal Palace.

After taking over the managerial role, Ljungberg was asked about who his captain would be and he seems to favour retaining Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

When asked about his approach to the club’s captaincy, Ljungberg told Sky Sports as cited by the Daily Star: “I’m not going to make enormous massive changes. I’m going to keep those things as it is.

“There has been so much in the media and so many discussions so that’s going to be left.

“I’m going to concentrate on how we play and what we can do on the football pitch.”

He was pressed further on whether he would maintain Aubameyang as his captain, he replied: “You’ll see that tomorrow.”

It would be strange if Freddie made such a dramatic change, to be honest. He needs harmony and for the players to be united. Stripping Aubameyang of the captaincy is not exactly going to create a bonding atmosphere right now.

Personally I would never have given Auba the captaincy in the first place, however, there is nothing to gain taking it off of him now.
