Frustrated Arsenal striker offers backing to Arsene Wenger

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has offered his backing to Arsene Wenger, acknowledging him as a key reason for joining, whilst admitting his frustration with his Europa League exclusion.

The Gabon international joined the club this January in a club record transfer from Borussia Dortmund, and his transfer has brought a bright light of excitement to the club, but the team has still struggled since his arrival.

Aubameyang has bagged himself three goals in his six outings since his move, continuing his fine goalscoring record for his previous side, but that has not helped Arsenal to avoid defeat in four of those matches, but he is confident that the tide is turning.

The striker is also happy to be able to work alongside under-fire boss Arsene Wenger in North London, Citing him as the reason for joining.

“I am really happy because I am here because of him,” Aubameyang told reporters.

“He had the interest in me so I am happy to play for him.”

“I’m feeling really better; in January I didn’t play a lot so it was difficult when I came here, but I’m feeling better and I try to do my best of course for the team and for the club,”

“I think the team did very well and we are all happy, we are feeling better of course. We feel the confidence is back.”

The 29 year-old also admitted his frustration at having to sit out the Europa League campaign, which could well be his best shot at qualification for the Champions League next term, and with Alexandre Lacazette also out with injury their chances of winning the competition remain strongly in doubt.

Would we have been amongst the favourites for EL glory with Aubameyang available? Are our team turning the corner confidence-wise?
