Goal difference showing Arsenal have perfect balance?

The final goal of the game between Arsenal and Sunderland could be a significant one for a number of reasons. The most important one at the time was that it sealed the win and let the Arsenal fans and players relax after a stressful game in which the Black Cats could count themselves a bit unlucky. (Geddit?)

Another reason that goal may prove to be vital is the fact it was scored by Aaron Ramsey, back in his favoured central role where the Gunners will need him to rediscover his best form in the absence of Santi Cazorla. We have seen before that Ramsey can sometimes try too hard when he is in need of a goal so this one could really help his and the team’s performances in the coming weeks.

That third goal also meant that we are now level on goal difference with Man City for the first time this season, as well as being ahead on points of course. While you might think this is only important if you finish the season on the same points, I think it actually shows that a team has great balance between the attacking and defending sides of the game.

So even though Leicester and Man City have scored more EPL goals and Everton have the same 27 as the Gunners, they have also conceded more. At the same time, Man United and the spuds have conceded fewer and Stoke and Crystal Palace the same number as Arsenal but I would suggest that we are the most balanced team in the division.

Only time will tell if this means that we will finish on top of the table come May, but if we have the best goal difference, the chances are pretty good.
