Arsene Wenger has given an uncomfortable interview about the latest injury update of Arsenal’s Santi Cazorla. The Spaniard has been out of action since October last year, when he was only expected to be missing for a matter of months. Cazorla has since had his return date moved a number of times, and it remains to be seen whether he will return at all.
We near the midfield star’s 33rd birthday at present, and after such a lengthy spell on the sidelines there has to be a question mark over his ability to return at all, and Arsene Wenger’s tone when discussing the Spaniard may well be telling us how unlikely that possibility really is.
The Frenchman said: “That [operation] is for me, the disastrous, sad news of the day. I feel really sorry for Santi.
“He is a guy I admire, that we all love here, who came into training every day with a smile because he loved so much the game.
“For him not to be available for us, it is a big blow. But for him, as well, it is something that is difficult to take.
“I hope despite what happened … I don’t know exactly well. I have been informed medically but I have not read any report.”
Aaron Ramsey has taken on the role previously adopted by the Spaniard, and has found consistency in his new role, and Cazorla may well have had a battle to return to the starting line-up, but he would no doubt be a great option could he return to fitness and form.
