If Wenger leaves Arsenal……. Ancelotti or Brendan Rodgers?

There are many people, including lots of Arsenal fans and ex-Gunners, that are making it clear that our recent performances show that Arsene Wenger’s time at the Emirates should be terminated as soon as possible, but who should be his replacement?

A lot of punters have been tipping Thierry Henry and Mikel Arteta, but their inexperience would make it a very difficult first job for either of them, and maybe they should prove themselves elsewhere first.

One top manager that is free at the moment, and is very keen on living in London, is the Italian Carlo Ancelotti, who is one of the most experienced men around. Lois Langton, chair of the Arsenal Independent Supporters’ Association believes he would be a popular choice amongst Arsenal fans. “I think that many supporters would say, if asked, that Ancelotti would be the stand-out candidate in the event that the current manager steps down,” she said.

“He has the status, nous, expertise and experience of the Premier League and you would like to think would bring with him the defensive and tactical acumen that would address some of our long identified problems.

“What we witnessed at Wembley was the culmination of years of arrogance and stubbornness.

“The solution is blindingly obvious and it is painful to watch what is happening to our wonderful club.

“For the sake of our football club, the board must grasp the nettle. Nobody is denying what he (Wenger) has achieved for the club but that cannot be used as a self-serving justification to prevent change.”

She is definitely keen for Wenger to go it seems, but there is another candidate that is a little closer to home, as Brendan Rodgers could be available as well. The Nortern irishman took Swansea to the Premier League for their very first time and dragged Liverpool up to challenge for the title themselves recently. He then took over his childhood team Celtic, and led them to an Invincible Treble last season and is on course to complete another clean sweep in his second season.

The TalkSport and Sky presenter said recently: “Surely Brendan Rodgers would be the perfect fit for Arsenal. It would be the perfect time for him. Would Brendan not be wasting his time spending another year in Scotland?

“I think he’d be wasting his time staying at Celtic. He’s won everything. He’s proved himself up there.”

He would certainly be a promising candidate and is still young at 45 despite being very experiened. I think he could be worth a go….

What do you think?
