Arsenal’s Joel Campbell has picked up an injury whilst on international duty with Costa Rica, and will now miss out on a huge chunk of the new campaign.
The Gunners forward is currently into the final 12 months of his contract with our club, and had been expected to be sold in the current window. Arsenal will now be forced to try and offload him in January for a minimal fee, with the likelihood that he will end up leaving on a free transfer come the end of the term.
Campbell spent last season on loan with Sporting CP, but was only given 18 Primeira Liga outings, and he will be disappointed with his lack of playing time throughout the campaign.
The 25 year-old has been forced to endure five different loan spells since joining Arsenal back in 2011, but was given a chance to earn a regular role in our side in the 2015-16 season, and while the fans enjoyed his impact in the team, Arsene Wenger was seemingly unconvinced.
His exit remains inevitable, although his destination will remain in tandem whilst he is stuck on the sidelines, and he will now concentrate on his recovery, with six months of recovery mooted.
He’ll be joined by Jack Wilshere in the treatment room, who is also ruled out for much of the season, and is coincidentally also out of contract come the end of the new season.
His future is also unknown, with an exit seeming extremely likely, although Manchester City have been mooted as a possible destination, with Pep Guardiola believed to be a fan.
