International Arsenal defender eyeing summer exit

Arsenal left-back Kieran Gibbs is claimed to be considering a move away from the club this summer.

The 26 year-old has fallen down the pecking order in North-London, with Nacho Monreal having kept him on the sidelines with very consistent displays this term.

The Spanish international has been getting plaudits from all around for his displays, and Gibbs is now believed to be eyeing a move away from the club in search of more regular football.

Gibbs emerged through the youth ranks, and was expected to become the long-term replacement for Ashley Cole at Arsenal as well as for England, but he appears to have failed to reach his full potential.

The defender is said to have told Arsene Wenger that he is unhappy with his current situation, and the manager will have to decide on whether he can accommodate the England hopeful’s playing needs.

ESPN claim an exit appears to be on the cards, and to be fair, a move does make sense. I like Gibbs, but he just isn’t up to the standard in reality.

A move to a mid-table team could be ideal for the defender, and with more regular action he could possibly make the step-up to challenge for his England place before the World Cup comes around in 2018.

We have been linked with a move to sign 19 year-old Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell, and with having only made three first-team appearances for the Foxes this season, could be willing to join in order to learn while playing second fiddle to Monreal.

Would anyone rather bring Gibbs ahead of Monreal, with the Spaniard having turned 30 this year, or do you agree that a move makes sense for all parties? Could we challenge on all fronts with an understudy in the squad to Monreal or do we need two first-team stars to challenge for the role?
