Is Alexis on the verge of Arsenal exit? Or not?

Considering the fact that Alexis Sanchez was Arsenal’s undisputed talisman last season and that the player has only one year to run on his contract, with a number of Europe’s elite clubs vying for his signature, there was always going to be widespread speculation over his future. In the latest twist, Transfer Market Web has claimed that Alexis is very close to a move to Bayern Munich.

The report further goes on to state that the final details of the deal are in the process of being finalised and that the Chilean is excited about the prospect of playing under Carlo Ancelotti. With Arsenal failing to qualify for the Champions League, moving to a team that is almost guaranteed to win the Bundesliga every season and can challenge in the Champions League is understood to be too good of an offer for the former Barcelona man to turn down.

But before we get carried away by the prospect of losing the 28-year-old, its worth noting that the source of the story, Transfer Market Web, is not the most reliable of sources. Furthermore, Sky Sports, which happens to be a very reliable source, reported recently that the Bavarians pulled out of the race for the Arsenal star considering his exorbitant wage demands believed to be in the range of £300k-a-week, which makes sense considering that the highest-paid players at the Allianz Arena are all on about £160k-a-week.

Personally, I believe that Sanchez will wait and see what Arsenal can do in the transfer window before he makes up his mind. The player clearly cherishes being the Gunners’ main man and playing in a system that best suits his abilities, its just a matter of whether or not Arsene Wenger’s men can compete, and the North Londoners’ activity in the transfer market will be the best indicator of that. With an offer of about £280k-a-week said to be on the table, you’d have to think that the detrimental factor now is who Arsenal can bring in to convince the Chilean that this team can compete.
