Is Arsenal’s lack of confidence the players fault or Wenger’s?

Everybody has been very quick to lay all the blame for Arsenal’s awful season and slump in form on Arsene Wenger, but he is not the one out on the pitch making schoolboy errors and missing easy shots. That is simply down to the players who are not doing the job that are extremely highly paid to do well, and they are supposed to be amongst the best and most successful in the world!

One of our biggest problems this season has been our defence, and Laurent Koscielny has been one of the biggest culprits in our slump, but he is at a loss to explain why the squad has lost it’s confidence suddenly after so many years of being a top team. “We know we are in a bad situation, a bad period,” he said.

“We tried but nothing is with us. We tried to fight and play football but you could see the confidence is very down. We miss a lot of things during the game but we need to push more again and again. The confidence will be back slowly. We know we need to win to have a little bit more confidence in us. We lost a little bit of our quality but we need to stay united.”

“It is very hard because when you play for a big club like Arsenal you need to be in the Top Four,”

“I think it has been difficult for everyone, maybe the first time for all of them,”

“We are not confident in our quality individually and collectively,”

“The players have the responsibility on the pitch, the boss has responsibilities too and we have to be together,”

“It is difficult to say if it is his fault or our fault. The club are together and we need to stay together.”

So have we lost our confidence because we are not in the Top Four? Or are we not in the Top Four because we have lost our confidence?

Are the players just not capable any more and should be replaced? Or has the manager lost the ability to motivate the players?

Whatever the real reason, it is Wenger that is getting all the blame, but should the players be getting some as well?
