After Max Allegri had announced that he had no intention of leaving Juventus unless he was sacked, which is hardly likely to happen considering his amazing record since arriving at the Old Lady, it would appear that the the most likely person to replace Arsene Wenger is our old midfielder Mikel Arteta, who has spent his time since retiring as assistant to Pep Guardiola at Man City.
When he left the club, he admitted that he had had serious talks with the Arsenal heirarchy about his future, and he revealed a little when he was asked about his coaching future: ““I don’t want to say clubs but I have three very different options and I am very proud, because it is not common,” he said. “I have been left the door very open [at Arsenal] and I may have to make a decision.
“I don’t want to talk. I have so much respect for this club, what they think about me and what they have shown in the last few weeks that they want to do with me, that I cannot talk about any other things…”
So perhaps it was implied that the Gunners were looking at him being the long term heir to Wenger’s position, and it is no secret that Gazidis and Co are keen to maintain Wenger’s values and commitment to the club. Petr Cech also maintained recently that although Wenger has now gone, his philosophy should be continued. “The most important thing will be to continue the legacy of Arsenal Football Club,” Cech said. “The club has a certain philosophy and has been built around the game of football and the way the club presents itself and the way the team plays football. It will be great if we can carry on that legacy.”
Well no matter what the fans think about bringing in an experienced coach, there is no doubt that the Spaniard knows how the club is run, and perhaps it is no coincidence that there are other former Gunners being brought in as well. Jens Lehmann arrived this season as a coach, and now we hear that Freddie Ljungberg will be joining the club as a youth coach, and of course Per Mertesacker will also be taking over in charge of the youths this summer.
It looks like there is an onflux of staff that have been trained in “The Arsenal Way” and that seems to make it even more likely that Arteta will definitely be the new coach, and could there be even more ex-Gunners arriving as well?
