Is this Arsenal’s best signing this year?

There is no doubt that Alexadre Lacazette and Saed Kolasinac were very good buy for Arsenal this summer, but it could well be that the appointment of Sven Mislintat could be even more important for the future of the Gunners. No one is saying that Steve Rowley wasn’t brilliant as our chief scout, but after 25 years under his management perhaps it is about time that Arsenal brought in some new blood to and a new (diamond!) eye to look at our scouting process.

Wenger thanked Crowley for his contribution to the club. Le Prof said, “We would like to thank Steve Rowley for all his hard work over many years for the club. He has been a key figure in our recruitment of so many top players and has travelled thousands and thousands of miles, watching hundreds of games for us during his time at the club. We wish him well for the future.”

But now we have Mislintat, who after 10 years with Borussia Dortmund has probably helped the Bundesliga side overperform even more than Arsenal in that period. Dortmund have brought through some amazing talent over the years and players like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Shinji Kagawa and Ousmane Dembele, and many others, have all been credited to Mislintat’s eye for talent.

Wenger is also very happy with his new Chief of recruitment, and hhe welcoomed him by saying: “We are delighted that Sven is joining us. Identifying and developing talent is a core part of our philosophy and Sven has an outstanding track record over many years. We look forward to him taking our existing recruitment approach forwards.”

It is not just a core part, it is an area that Arsenal definitely need to improve on as there have not been that many young players that have actually come through the academy to join the Gunners first team. Hopefully all that will change after Sven has been in charge for a few years….
