Is Wenger saying Lacazette not good enough for Arsenal?

If Arsene Wenger is saying what I think he is saying, then I really hope that the old Arsenal adage of ‘Arsene Knows Best’ proves to be right this time and that the Gunners he already has available to him for the forward positions are good enough to fire us to the Premier League title.

As the Arsenal transfer rumours grow ever less confident about the boss securing the transfer of the France international star Alexandre Lacazette, Wenger is seen as being under increasing amounts of pressure to add some firepower to the team, after that area was seen as a major flaw in our title challenge last season.

As reported by The Telegraph, however, the Arsenal boss played down this pressure and declared one again that he would not be forced into spending big money on a player just for the sake of it, going on to suggest that unless the player in question was better than the likes of Theo Walcott, Joel Campbell and Alex Iwobi then there was not much point in Arsenal signing them.

Wenger said, “I am enough under pressure, you don’t need to give me more. I take a distance from all that. I just try to analyse in a rational way what is the best decision for the team and the club.

“I know it’s more glamorous to buy a £50-60million player than to give a chance to a young player but in my job you have to just look at the quality and not so much the numbers surrounding a transfer.”

So is he really suggesting that the prolific striker from Lyon would not improve our first team and our chances of winning a major trophy this year? Really Arsene, really?
