The Arsenal winger Theo Walcott returned to the starting line-up for yesterday’s game against Bournemouth and happily scored the second goal to regain the lead for the Gunners. Straight away he ran to the corner flag doing the “rock the baby” celebration in recognition that his wife Melanie gave birth to his second son, named Arlo.
So for him this was the perfect weekend. A new baby. A goal to become joint highest scorer for the Gunners so far this season. And a hard-fought three points as well. This is what he said after the game: “It’s just nice to be back, it’s happened now and I can just concentrate on the football,”
“I’m probably the happiest person in the world and obviously with the team winning as well, back to winning ways – it’s the perfect weekend.
“It was a good team performance today, Bournemouth are a very solid team and play very good football. We did find it difficult at times but but we started to click again.”
It’s true Arsenal finally won the game, and after the three draws so far this month it was good to see Arsenal actually getting some shots at the opponents goal for a change. The one worrying statistic is that out of 16 attempts, the only 3 on target resulted in the three goals. That is not particularly impressive against a team like Bournemouth!
But hopefully the Gunners have now got over our nervous November out of the way and we can go back to our League campaign in December just three points behind the leaders. Next weekend we have a game at the Olympic Stadium against West Ham, and with Chelsea taking on Manchester City maybe we can have another perfect weekend!
