Jack Wilshere’s injury explained but Southgate says it’s not serious

When we heard this week that Arsenal’s very own Jack wilshere was going to miss both of England’s friendlies this week with tendinopathy, which is chronic case of tendonitis and needs to be controlled regularly.

I have found a desription of the treatment for tendinopathies on WebMD

Take the following steps to treat tendinopathies:

Rest the affected area, and avoid any activity that may cause pain. Get enough sleep. To keep your overall health and fitness, continue exercising but only in ways that do not stress the affected area. Do not resume an aggravating activity as soon as the pain stops. Tendons require weeks of additional rest to heal. You may need to make long-term changes in the types of activities you do or how you do them.

Apply ice or cold packs as soon as you notice pain and tenderness in your muscles or near a joint. Apply ice 10 to 15 minutes at a time, as often as twice an hour, for 72 hours. Continue applying ice (15 to 20 minutes at a time, 3 times a day) as long as it relieves pain. Although heating pads may feel good, ice will relieve pain and inflammation.

Take pain relievers if needed. Use acetaminophen or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen or naproxen, as directed for pain relief. NSAIDs also reduce any inflammation you might have in or around the tendon (tendinitis). NSAIDs come in pills and in a cream that you rub over the sore area. Do not rely on medicine to relieve pain in order to continue overusing a joint.

You can read the full diagnosis and treatment expected on this link… This problem may be one of the reasons that Arsenal have only offered him a reduced wage and a performance based contract. But the England boss Gareth Southgate doesn’t consider it too serious and thinks Jack will be fit to face Stoke this weekend.

Southgate said: “I have no reason to believe that he won’t be back for their next game.

“It is an ongoing issue which he has to manage and he wasn’t going to be ready for tomorrow for us, but I’m pretty certain he will be back for Arsenal’s next game.”

When he was then asked if it was now too late to assess Wilshere’s chances of going to the World Cup, Southgate added: “I don’t think it’s too late for anybody.

“It is obviously more difficult because there is a couple of guys who have been in squads and not had the chance to play for us.

“We will still be monitoring everybody between now and the end of the season.

“There is probably a squad of 31, 32 players that are in contention and none of us know what is going to happen in the next eight to ten weeks.

“The most important thing is that if people are in the squad, then they are physically able to play at the level that allows them to show their ability.

“That is the thing that’s most important from my perspective.”

So I guess if Southgate thinks it is normal for footballers and Jack continues to play his utmost for Arsenal in our remaining games, then he could possibly still go to the World Cup, but would Southgate be taking a calculated risk…
